First Grade

Mrs. Hoffman:
Ms. Hoffman is pleased to be a part of the Mays Chapel Elementary School First Grade team!  She has a passion for teaching and learning.  As a child, she had always wanted to become a teacher, and would often play school with her younger brother and neighbors.  She has been teaching first grade students since 2007.  Ms. Hoffman holds a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, and a Master’s Degree in Reading Education from Towson University. Prior to teaching at Mays Chapel, she worked at Norwood Elementary School in Baltimore County, solely teaching first grade.  Ms. Hoffman enjoys reading, traveling, kayaking and spending time with family and friends. She is delighted to begin a new school year at Mays Chapel Elementary!

Mrs. Kline:

Mrs. Kline has been teaching in the BCPS system since 2007. She previously taught in Catonsville, and then moved to Mays Chapel ES its opening year in 2014. Mrs. Kline taught kindergarten for ten years and is currently starting her second year teaching first grade.  She graduated with her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education in 2006 from Saginaw Valley State University in Saginaw, Michigan.  Mrs. Kline has two daughters at home and enjoys reading, cooking, yoga and gardening.


Mrs. Shimkaveg:  

Mrs. Shimkaveg graduated from Towson University with a Bachelor of Science in Special Education. Mrs. Shimkaveg has been a special educator in Baltimore County for 11 years. She has taught at both Chatsworth Elementary and Oliver Beach Elementary.  She is passionate about providing the best education for all students. Mrs. Shimkaveg has 2 children and her husband is also a special educator in Baltimore County. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, camping, and hanging out with her family.

Ms. Brown

Ms. Brown is beyond excited to join the Mays Chapel team this year! Raised in the Hereford Zone, she is an alumni from Baltimore County Public Schools. Ms. Brown graduated from St. Mary’s College of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and a double minor in Educational Studies and Spanish. She remained at St. Mary’s to receive her Master’s degree in Elementary Education. Ms. Brown has a passion for the sport of lacrosse, having played throughout high school and college. Outside of school, Ms. Brown enjoys spending time with family and her yellow lab, Jake. She also enjoys running, traveling, and supporting the Baltimore Ravens.

Ms. Quimby:

Ms. Quimby loves teaching first grade and is excited to be on this educational journey with her students! Teaching has always been her passion and her goal is to make her classroom an exciting and inviting place for all of her students. Ms. Quimby graduated from Towson University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and Special Education in 2013. She began her career as a Special Education Inclusion Teacher in Baltimore County where she fulfilled that role for two years. In 2015, Ms. Quimby joined the first grade team at Mays where she taught for four years before moving to fourth grade for a couple of years. This year, Ms. Quimby is back to teaching first grade and she couldn’t be more excited! Ms. Quimby graduated with a Master’s Degree in Leadership in Special Education – Exceptionalities from Notre Dame of Maryland University in 2018. Ms. Quimby loves to spend time with her friends and family, stay active, and craft!
