Grade 2 Teachers

Mrs. Banks:

Mrs. Banks is beyond excited to meet and work with you and your children this school year! She feels privileged to have started her teaching career in Baltimore County by opening Mays Chapel Elementary in 2014. Mrs. Banks graduated from Salisbury University with a degree in Early Childhood Education and a minor in psychological studies. Mrs. Banks is from the Eastern Shore and is elated to be sharing her love of teaching in counties other than where she grew up. In her free time, Mrs. Banks enjoys traveling, cooking, attending as many Washington Capitals and Nationals games as possible, and spending time with her husband, family, and beagle puppy, Penny.

Ms. Blessing:

Ms. Blessing is very excited to start a new year of learning and growing with her students. Born and raised in Maryland, she attended Salisbury University and received her degree in Elementary Education. Ms. Blessing values each and every child that walks through her door and is passionate about creating a positive and safe classroom community. Outside of teaching, Ms. Blessing loves spending time with her large close knit family of brothers, sisters-in-laws, nieces, and nephews. She enjoys music, concerts, singing and dancing, spending time in nature, and cheering for Philadelphia sports teams!


Mrs. Ewell:

Ms. Ewell feels excited and fortunate to have had the opportunity to open Mays Chapel Elementary School and to continue this journey with all of the students and staff! She began her teaching career in 1988 in Baltimore City before coming to Baltimore County where she spent 19 years at Carroll Manor Elementary School and 3 years at Westchester Elementary School. She earned a bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Maryland College Park and a masters degree in reading from The Johns Hopkins University. She became a National Board Certified Teacher in 2002 and held that certification continuously for ten years. Throughout her career, she has taught as a classroom teacher in grades one and two and has served as a reading specialist. She was a member of the Math Cadre in Baltimore County where she assisted in helping to write math curriculum as well as provide professional development for teachers. In 2013, she was selected to help write math curriculum that was published through a grant program funded by NSA. She lives in Riderwood with her two children, Reese and Sadie, and her own Labrador, Roxy and cat, Mango. She spends most of her free time with her children's activities and enjoys swimming, reading, and being outdoors mostly at the beach!

Ms. Pawlak:

Ms. Whitaker has been teaching in Baltimore County since 2013. Originally from South Carolina, she received her Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education from Lander University. She believes that every student should walk into the classroom with a clean slate and a fresh start! Outside of teaching, Ms. Whitaker enjoys spending time with her nieces and nephews, being outdoors, loving on her cats and dog, and cheering on the Ravens and Orioles.

Mrs. Puopolo:
Mrs. Puopolo is thrilled to be a part of making positive and meaningful school memories with your child! Her optimistic personality and dedication to the teaching profession will be a valuable asset to help cultivate an encouraging and positive culture at our school. As a career changer, she spent several years working in a private industry and finally heard her true calling to become a teacher. One year later, she received her Master of Arts in Teaching degree along with a dual certification in elementary and special education through an accelerated graduate program at the College of Notre Dame. Mrs. Puopolo is married and the proud parent of Milo and Sunny, her own two little angels! She enjoys swimming, laughing and reading. Her passion is teaching and cannot wait to be part of building a love of learning and risk taking for your own little ones at Mays Chapel Elementary School.
