Mrs. Counsell

Mrs. Counsell has been a School Counselor since 2010. Prior to coming to MCES, she worked at New Town Elementary School for four years. She has her Master’s Degree in School Counseling from Loyola University-Maryland and her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Dayton in Sociology. In addition to state certification, she also holds a certificate as a National Certified Counselor. Prior to working for BCPS, she worked for both the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization and Catholic Charities as a case manager. She is passionate about her family and being a mother to her daughter and son. She also enjoys reading, swimming, listening to music, dancing, and rooting for local sports teams (Go Ravens and O's) in her free time.
Mr. Rubin

Mr. Rubin has been working as a school counselor in Baltimore County since 1998. Before Mays Chapel, he worked at Randallstown High, Stemmers Run Middle and Meadowood Education Center. He has his Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology/Anthropology from St. Mary’s College of Maryland and his Master’s Degree in School Counseling from Loyola University in Maryland. Mr. Rubin believes in developing meaningful relationships with his students and partnering with their teachers and families along the way. Mr. Rubin is an avid sports fan and has coached high school and youth lacrosse since 1994. Some of his other interests are snowboarding, running, hiking, listening to live music and spending time with his wife and daughter.

Ms. Miedlar loves working with the talented and enthusiastic members of the Mays Chapel Team. She helped to open Mays Chapel in its inaugural year in 2014 and she has been teaching in Baltimore County since 2004. Prior to joining Team Mays, Ms. Miedlar had experience teaching fifth grade and fourth grade at New Town Elementary School. Ms. Miedlar completed her Master of Science Degree in Mathematics Education at Towson University and she holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Special Education from Loyola University in Maryland. In her free time, Ms. Miedlar enjoys reading, running, baking/cooking, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

Ms.Kearns

Ms. Kearns is thrilled to start her 7th year as a special educator and 1st year at May Chapel! Ms. Kearns grew up in New Jersey and moved to Maryland when she went to college. Ms. Kearns went to Towson University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education and special education. She is now attending Goucher University where she is very close to graduating with her masters in reading instruction. Outside of school, Ms. Kearns loves to stay busy with friends and family! Ms. Kearns enjoys being active, spending time in the woods or near the water, and lying on the couch with a good book. Ms. Kearns looks forward to creating a positive and inclusive environment for her students to foster personal, social, and academic growth. She can’t wait for a wonderful year at Mays Chapel!

School Psychologist
Dr. Young-Hoffman

Dr. Young-Hoffman has been part of the Mays Chapel Elementary community since 2022. She has enjoyed getting to know the students and their families and working with an exceptional staff. Dr. Young-Hoffman completed her doctorate in Developmental Psychology at the City University of New York Graduate Center. She then respecialized in Clinical and School Psychology through the doctoral program at Hofstra University. Dr. Young-Hoffman has worked in clinical and school settings in New York, Maryland, and New Hampshire. In 2007, Dr. Young-Hoffman was honored to receive the award for New Hampshire School Psychologist of the Year. In 2018, she and her husband returned to Maryland and she joined Baltimore County Public Schools. Dr. Young-Hoffman previously worked at Pleasant Plains Elementary, Oakleigh Elementary, and Glyndon Elementary. This year, Dr. Young-Hoffman will be sharing her time between Mays Chapel and Prettyboy Elementary. She enjoys nature, outdoor activities, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.

Mrs. Smith

Mrs. Smith has been a teacher in the Baltimore County School System since 1999. She received her undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and her Masters in Reading Education from Walden University. Mrs. Smith began her career teaching Kindergarten and 1st Grade at Berkshire Elementary for 15 years, before she became part of the Mays Chapel family when it opened in 2014. Here, she has also taught Kindergarten and 1st grade, before becoming a Reading Specialist in 2019. When she is not teaching, Mrs. Smith enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons, Will and Joey. Her favorite activities include watching her boys play ball, reading, and cheering on the Ravens and Orioles!

Mrs. Towle

Mrs. Towle graduated in 2016 with a degree in Elementary and Special Education. She was born in Maryland and attended Baltimore County Public Schools from kindergarten through high school. When she was a child, she lined her stuffed animals on the end of her bed to teach reading and math. She loved playing school! When she grew up, she followed her childhood dream and became a fifth-grade teacher. She loves to learn and grow, so she decided to go back to school for a master’s degree in Educational Leadership. Mrs. Towle loves being the math specialist at Mays Chapel and is always looking to continue to grow. She loves working with teachers and students to to reach our school goals in math. Outside of school, she enjoys spending time with family, hiking, traveling, lounging on the beach, and finding moments to relax. She is lucky to have a husband, son, and dog to go home to every day!
Staff Development Teacher
Ms. Redmer

Mrs. Redmer loves being at Mays Chapel Elementary as the Staff Development Teacher (SDT). She is looking forward to supporting the goal of building staff capacity to meet system-wide initiatives and our school's goals to increase student learning. She attended Baltimore County Public Schools from kindergarten through high school. She graduated with her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and Special Education and she graduated with her Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Towson University. She also has two certificates in the areas of Gifted Education and Education Leadership. She started her teaching experience as a special educator in the intermediate grades and then she taught Grade 5 for 6 years. She also has previous experience as a Staff Development teacher at 2 separate day schools as well as a resource teacher for math and science. Mrs. Redmer truly enjoys spending time with family, playing board and card games, golfing, and exploring outdoor adventures.

Mrs. Lanier began her nursing career is a BSN graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing. After working in trauma for several years, she moved to Maryland and was a part of the Surgical ICU and adolescent pediatric units at John Hopkins Hospital. In 2007 she began her school nursing career at Glenmar Elementary, where she remained for 7 years. While at Glenmar, she earned her Master’s degree from the University of Maryland in Health Sciences Education. She enjoys the combination of health care and education that school nursing provides! Mrs. Lanier enjoys travelling abroad, where she has done a cartwheel on every continent but Antarctica! In her free time she loves camping, the outdoors, reading, gardening, and scrapbooking. Mrs. Lanier’s family includes her husband and two young sons, and their beagle mix, Fitch.

Mrs. O’Melia has been teaching English Language Development and Spanish for over 20 years. She received her BA in Economics from the University of Virginia, her MA in Linguistics from the University of Texas at Austin and took her teaching certification classes at UMBC. Mrs. O’Melia likes to read and travel.

Ms. Craft is in her 11th year at Mays Chapel and has worked in the education field for the last 15 years. Previous to coming to Mays, she worked at Stoneleigh Elementary school as a one-on-one adult assistant. Ms. Craft loves being a part of the MCES aMAYSing school family. She enjoys not only participating in the student's education but loves building relationships with the kiddos at MCES. She is a mom of four boys, two dogs, and a cat. When Ms. Craft isn't at school; she loves spending time with her husband Rich and family. She also adores hiking, camping, cooking, and gardening!

Mrs. White is in her seventh year at Mays Chapel Elementary school and has worked in the education field for the last 12 years. Prior to coming to Mays, she worked at Pinewood Elementary school as a one-on-one adult assistant. She came to Mays Chapel because her youngest son was rezoned when Mays Chapel was built. She started volunteering at the school when her son started 3rd grade which made her want to stay full time. She loves working with the kids. One of the things that she loves best about Mays Chapel is that she not only helps student develop great reading and math skills, but she loves nurturing friendships and bonds with the children she works with. She has a degree in nutrition and exercise science from the University of Delaware. She is also a mom of three boys and two dogs. In her spare time, she loves to read, take walks with her family and dogs, travel, and have coffee conversations with her friends.
