Principal

Mr. Coco:

Mr. Coco has proudly served the Baltimore County Public School community for nearly 20 years and has always appreciated the opportunity to learn as he serves.  Modeling lifelong learning and valuing the input of others have been the cornerstone of his educational philosophy.  His career has allowed him to gain a diverse background of experiences prior to beginning his journey with the Mays Chapel community in 2013.  He began his career as a fourth grade teacher in 1995 at Sparks Elementary School in the Central region of Baltimore County, followed by the opportunity to open Westchester Elementary School in Catonsville in its inaugural year as a classroom teacher in 1998.  Next, Mr. Coco’s career provided him the chance to serve children and families in the classroom at Church Lane Elementary School in the Northwest region of Baltimore County.  In 2001-2002, Mr. Coco served as a teacher mentor working in 10 elementary schools across Baltimore County.  Since then, he has served 3 schools in an administrative capacity including Hernwood Elementary and Bedford Elementary as an assistant principal and most recently 6 years as principal of Cedarmere Elementary.  All three schools are in the Northwest region of Baltimore County.  Mr. Coco’s formal education includes a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Frostburg State University, Maryland Teacher Certification from Goucher College, and a Master of Science in Human Resource Development with a focus in School Leadership from Towson University.  Outside of his passion for teaching and learning, Mr. Coco enjoys quality time with his family, including his wife, three daughters, and Labrador retriever.   When not in school, his personal interests also include most outdoor related activities with a particular affinity to anything related to water.

Assistant Principals

Mrs. Murray:

Mrs. Murray is a teacher at heart and has always found joy in working with children. As the oldest of four children her career as a teacher unofficially started when she would play school with her younger siblings. She started her professional career teaching fifth grade at Roland Park Elementary Middle School in Baltimore City before joining Team BCPS as a fourth grade teacher at Pot Spring Elementary School. She began her administrative experience as the assistant principal at Hampton Elementary School and has served that community for seven years. Mrs. Murray’s formal education includes a Bachelor of Arts in Education and a Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership, both from Goucher College. In addition to her love for learning and teaching, Mrs. Murray enjoys quality time with her husband and three children. She is an active runner who has run several half marathons and hopes to tackle a marathon in the future. Personal interests also include spending time at the beach, watching the Ravens and Orioles, and cooking. Mrs. Chyko-Leigh: Ms. Chyko-Leigh is excited to be continuing her educational journey at Mays Chapel Elementary School. She began her teaching career in Baltimore County Public Schools in 2000 at Villa Cresta Elementary School. At that time she was a teacher of students who are deaf and hard of hearing, working as a classroom teacher in the intermediate grades. Throughout her tenure at Villa Cresta, Ms. Chyko-Leigh was afforded the opportunity to work with children in grade K-5 and feels fortunate to have the curricular knowledge of all elementary school grade levels. She is also fluent in American Sign Language! In 2015, Ms. Chyko-Leigh transferred to Battle Grove Elementary School where she was the IEP Facilitator. In order to grow professionally it was time for a change, and this was just what Ms. Chyko-Leigh needed. In 2016, she joined the Mays Chapel Labs as an assistant principal. Ms. Chyko-Leigh’s formal education includes and Bachelor of Science in Special Education and Master of Science in the Education of Students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing, both from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. In her spare time, Ms. Chyko-Leigh enjoys spending time with her spouse and 2 adorable children. Her loves include the beach, reading, running, and family vacations to anywhere!

Administrative Secretary

Mrs. Eccleston:

Mrs. Eccleston accepted the responsibility of administrative secretary at Mays Chapel Elementary School with boundless enthusiasm and honor.  Following a wonderful time as a stay-at-home mom, she began a career with BCPS that spans over 23 years and began with the Infants and Toddlers Program at Chatsworth School.  She then spent 18 years as the administrative secretary at Cedarmere Elementary School in Reisterstown.  Along the way she worked with caring, dedicated families and staff who deeply enriched her life.   Now Mrs. Eccleston looks forward, with great exuberance, to forging new relationships and, most especially, working with the children, families and staff who will make up the Mays Chapel school community.  On the personal side, Mrs. Eccleston will absolutely beam with delight if you ask about her two young grandsons.   They are, without a doubt, her pride and joy.  Another youngster who keeps her active is her loveable puppy, Maggie, a rambunctious Labrador with a zest for life who definitely keeps her family on their toes!   Rounding out Mrs. Eccleston’s immediate family are her husband and children.  Mrs. Eccleston loves to read and spend time outdoors.  Although she will profess to not having a “green thumb”, she loves to garden in her spare time.
